The pretty princess and the. Lucky lover a conjuring entertainment in the form of a fairy . Preface Louis hoffmann. Lucky lover a conjuring entertainment in the form of a fairy tale. With practical instructions. This little book may, I believe, claim to be the first attempt to present a drawing-room conjuring entertainment in the guise of a connected story. A portion of the fairy tale thus practically illustrated by conjuring tricks was written some years ago for my own use, and was received with hearty approval by many juvenile audiences.

Whenever he came, he always brought something pretty in his pocket for the children, sometimes a little man who moved his eyes and made a bow, at others, a box, from which a little bird hopped out when it was opened - sometimes one thing, sometimes another.

Hoffmann provides a children's fairy tale, which is punctuated with magical effects, which are then explained at length in the second half of the book. The tricks include producing a rose from your buttonhole, the flying magic wand, an upside-down glass of water, flowers produced from an empty bag, cards rising from the pack, a magic die, and an 'anti-gravitation ball' which moves up not down. Most of the twenty tricks include diagrams in the text. First published in 1904. 100 pages.
