A Twist of Fate book. The novel says it’s glamorous and sexy and epic, but I found that strange, to be fair. It is a bit glamorous, but it’s not a sexy novel, though it is an epic. I normally wouldn't read a book that didn't have some sort of supernatural business in it, an book about everyday life is not normally my kind of thing, but I found A Twist of Fate to be quite an enjoyable read - to say the least. I've also never read anything that is, solely, about twins, either.

  • Too violent and vulgar.

  • Absolutely loved it. I loved both the main characters and found i could hardly put the book down.

  • Brillant!

  • Reading this book I felt like I had psychic powers. Every time a new character or plotline was introduced I could tell exactly how they/it would end. Look out, Sylvia Browne! No, not really. It's just that if you've read as many books of this type as I have you know the tropes and how they usually go. This one takes the predictable route, always.

Here we get the story of two girls, one an orphan, another with rich parents. Each finds success & fulfilment in her own way. Both have triumphs and tragedies, and in the end connections are made.

Since there's only so many ideas a writer can draw from it wouldn't be fair to criticize anyone for lack of originality; but what I can criticize is a writer who doesn't make those ideas come alive. Because that's really what makes the difference between boredom and enjoyment. You can have the most obvious plot in the world, completely unoriginal. If this obvious plot is written in a fresh style, people will love it. This book went either way (fresh, stale) at various times, although never to the extreme. I'd call the leanings about even.

There were some scary moments near the beginning where Romy, one of our leading ladies, exhibited definite Mary Sue behaviour-isms (barf, anger). Alas, all went well, as the book hit the mid-1990s and she turned into a mere human being-- and stayed that way. Nothing else in the book (aside from the bad guys' shenanigans) made me want to wring anyone's neck.

Two girls, one past. This is it.

  • This book is the best I have read. I couldn't put it down.Well done Joanna.I will be reading all your books.
