The Man Without book. Jun 30, 2012 Lewis Hall rated it really liked it.

Like his first novel, Electricity, Ray Robinson's The Man Without begins with the death of Val O'Connor, a woman we only ever glimpse. Lily's cousin Antony Dobson, the focus of Robinson's second book, knows nothing of this. For her daughter Lily, narrator of Electricity, Val's death is a relief. Neglectful, sluttish, abusive, Val colluded with her boyfriend Eddie's sexual abuse of her daughter and caused her epilepsy by throwing her down the stairs as a baby. For him, Val and Eddie's chaotic home was a childhood refuge from his own neglectful mother.

Raymond Robinson (October 29, 1910 – June 11, 1985) was a severely disfigured man whose years of nighttime walks made him into a figure of urban legend in western Pennsylvania. Robinson was so badly injured in a childhood electrical accident that he could not go out in public without fear of creating a panic, so he went for long walks at night. Local tourists would drive along his road in hopes of meeting The Green Man or Charlie No-Face

Ray Robinson beside a plaque honoring Lou Gehrig in Yankee Stadium. By Daniel E. Slotnik. In many articles and in the book Iron Horse: Lou Gehrig in His Time (1990), Mr. Robinson portrayed the famously humble and hard-working Gehrig as a human being instead of the mythical hero many see him as, without hiding his own reverence. Suited up, Gehrig looked bovine, unathletic, Mr. Robinson wrote.
