In deference to its cure-all effects, chicken soup is warmly referred to as "Jewish penicillin. It is not merely the delicious golden elixir itself, but, perhaps even more so, the love that is stirred into every potful that produces these miraculous results. Storytelling is a major component of Jewish tradition and this book honors that heritage with stories that celebrate the joys, sorrows and challenges of being Jewish. Some stories are timely and others are timeless, yet all are filled with heart-and, of course, love

  • I bought this for my son who is almost 11. He's had a history of getting bullied at school quite a bit and has put up a hard shell exterior to 'protect' himself. I was hoping this book would have some stories in it to help him deal with this. I didn't know if he'd read it so I told him we could read it together, one or two stories at a time at night. We did that for a few days. One day he told me he'd finished the book. He just kept reading it. He does love to read. He said it made him feel good that he wasn't the only kid to be going through this stuff. He seemed lighter afterward. Now he wants to read the teen book I got for his older brother. I think this book made tween life just a little more bearable for my son. That is so worth it. And, he can read it over and over again as he feels he needs it.

  • I bought this for my son because he has been having a really hard time at school recently. Kids can be so mean. I remember reading these as a teenager and was very pleased that they still had them around and have even expanded beyond what i remember. My son will read a story that really touches him and come and talk to me about it. I think it helps him to see that he is not the only one that is having a hard time right now. And i hope that it makes him more compassionate to those around him as well since the stories involve a variety of kids involving different circumstances.

  • Thank you "Chicken Soup for the Soul".......
If I have said it once I will say it again; "Chicken Soup for the Soul" are classic reading books about real peoples life events and "Christian Soul" is one of those that continue you to give you hope and to let you know that you are not alone in this life's journey. These are the kind of books, or for me on my "Kindle Fire", that you sit by a warm fire with some milk and cookie's or a hot cup of cocoa and submerge yourself into someone's life for just that brief moment; you always hate to see the story end but know there is a whole book waiting for you to read. And when you finish one book, or like me have many books on "Chicken Soup for the Soul" change books like changing a channel, you pickup another book and continue to read the heart felt stories.
This comment will be the same in all the wonderful "Chicken Soul for the Soul" series that I buy.
Thanks for the brief snippets of hope, BoomerBud

  • This is a birthday gift for my granddaughter who will be turning 11 in a few days. I looked through this book and I think she will be very pleased with it. She is getting into that stage when peer pressure is becoming more important to her, and since she will be entering middle school in the fall, perhaps she will feel a little more at ease reading the stories in this book..

  • The scores of short stories contained within this emotion-impacting book span a wide range of life-affecting topics that include love (15 stories), giving (11), parents and parenting (15), faith (12), levity (11), overcoming obstacles (11), perspective (11), and death and dying (15). The carefully selected stories (from thousands submitted) provide insight into the person God has called us to be, the actions God expects us to take, and the faith and attitude God expects us to adopt and profess. Scattered between the selections are both comics and thought-provoking quotations relevant to the section that they appear in.
Contributions for this outstanding 375+ page work were supplied by individuals such as the late Norman Vincent Peale, Corrie ten Boom, Dick Van Patten, Charles W. Colsen, Gary Smalley, Joan Wester Anderson, and Dick Van Dyke.
All stories are presented in a very readable level in which the reader can relate to the themes discussed and are short enough that single stories can be read in a session and then pondered. Your life will be more spiritually fulfilling and be more positive upon completion of reading this book if you take these stories to heart.
Do yourself a favor... A MUST read!

  • Ok, I know CSFTS books are famous for uplifting and helping through, but i have to honestly say..... IT DID NOT do the same for me. I highly admire what these peope have overcome but it was honestly more than I could handle. I cried through most of these stories and by the end of the book I was more depressed than uplifted. Of course this is just my personal experience with the book but I can say that it helps to remind you that you are not alone and even helps you count your blessings when you think you got it bad. I do recommed this book but I suggest you proceed with caution if you are easily affected by other peoples pain.

  • Some of the stories were really empowering and inspirational. However, the ones about achieving financial success and material goods really turned me off. I really wasn't expecting them in a "Chicken Soup for the..." series book.

  • This book is full of short, easily digestible motivational bed time stories.

    Every story is a “stand-alone”.

One of my best stories was about Abraham Lincoln’s failures.

Another story I really loved was the ‘Golden Buddha’. The message was that all of us have gold within us, our only task should be to discover it.

This book inspired me to write Celebrating Quiet People: Uplifting Stories for Introverts and Highly Sensitive Persons.
