A moving holiday story from New York Times bestselling author Andrew Clements. So he tells the class they can produce the big holiday concert on their own. For Hart Evans, being the most popular kid in sixth grade has its advantages. Kids look up to him, and all the teachers let him get away with anything - all the teachers except the chorus director, Mr. Meinert. When Hart's errant rubber band hits Mr. Meinert on the neck during chorus practice, it's the last straw for the chorus director, who's just learned he's about to lose his job due to budget cuts. Or not. It's. It didn't sound like much, but it was a big idea. It all started when Hart Evans zinged a rubber band that hit Mr. Meinert, the chorus director. Actually, it started before that, when Mr. Meinert learned he was out of a job because the town budget couldn't afford music and art teachers.

Meinert’s announcement the room was quiet, but only for a second. Hart gripped the sides of his desk. He shook his head and looked around the room. ctor-I wasn’t even in this election-no way!. Colleen jumped to her feet and said, I can be the director, okay? I know I can do it. And I’ll do a good job at it to. .Mr. Meinert said, Colleen, please sit down. Then, turning to Hart, he said, You already are the new director, Hart. We all heard the rules. Ross said that the whole chorus could vote for anyone.

In a huff, he announces that he is stepping down, and they are now responsible for planning their entire holiday concert themselves. The whole class is surprised, and elects Hart as the new Chorus director. He declares Music Class as a free period, until Mr. Meinert tells him that they've got a full 30 minutes for their show. Hart then, realizes they need to get down to work. After assembling committees and coming up with lists of songs, Hart finally thinks he has everything running on track. But then his classmates get mad. Why is Hart, their friend, acting like a teacher? It takes a heart-to-heart with Mr. Meinert to learn what it takes to be a friendly and fair, yet strict, chorus director.
  • Great product, great buying experience.

  • Wife uses these books in her classroom and really likes them

  • I'm a MAJOR fan of Andrew Clements. The Last Holiday Concert really displays his knack for being able to tap into a child's world and bring out the struggles and the best of all his characters, young and old.

  • I loved this book, but the ending was too sad. I liked the characters, but why do people have to be separated in "groups"?

  • This book had barely any flaws. It's an amazing book about love and confidence. It also shows how much a kid can do!
I would definitely recommend this book. I love how the author talks about all religions, not just focusing on Christmas.
    *small spoiler!*
I'm not one for sad endings, but that didn't ruin the book for me. Hopefully Hart and Mr.Meinert will.meet up again sometime.

  • My 10 year old son said he really liked this book. He has also read 3-4 other Andrew Clements books, and he really liked them all.

  • It just blew my mind. I've read the book before, but this book is just... well... mind blowing. Definitely one one of the best, if not THE best book Andrew Clemens has written.

  • It was a good book that teaches us all how to listen and work together. It was a fun book to read with my son.
