  • I first heard about the book as it was mentioned on the back of a Little Debbie brownie box. Thankful I did not order it that way, figured I could find it somewhere else at a lower price and did. History was my major at the U. of Iowa, so I did want to see what was in the book. Good to see what was in there since I had last studied in college and graduated, like Oklahoma city bombing, 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, and Obama. All of those deserved mention. But some notable omissions! No mention of French Huguenots, who moved to America for religious freedom, and America was founded on this principle! Also mention of an assassination that sparked World War One, but not who- Archduke Franz Ferdinand. If you say what, then also say WHO. Mention of one but not both Wright Brothers, and no mention of Wild West figures like Jesse James or Wyatt Earp. Charles Lindbergh, also left out. As a Minnesota resident I liked seeing a picture of the St. Paul Gophers, a baseball team. But I wouldn't have this book as a text for a K-12 or college class.

  • This book is recommended by The Well Trained Mind as a spine for homeschool history. I purchased the book. I am in the process of reading through this book bc my son will be using it to learn American History next year. I will probably will not be using this book next year. The author has filled this book with so much opinion that is presented as fact that it is hard to overcome. I would not recommend this book for a spine although the pictures are quite lovely.

  • this book is well worth it a great book I have learned few things from it my daughter in law home schools am going to see that she gets a copy of this amazing book well written

  • My son really likes this book. He took an interest in history so I got him this book. I actually saw it advertised on a Little Debbie box of all places, but it was cheaper to get from Amazon!
