Astérix et Cléopâtre Asterix and Cleopatra (Asterix, René Goscinny Asterix and Cleopatra is the sixth book in the Asterix comic book series by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo. To impress Julius Caesar, Queen Cleopatra promises to build the Roman Emperor a magnificent palace in just three months. Of course, Asterix has to get involved. By the time his feisty group from Gaul have finished, they’ve outwitted the Roman army, too.
  • This is one of the great Asterix tales, full of puns and silliness. The Gauls head to Egypt to help the druid Getafix's architect friend Edifis, who can't erect a proper building to save his life -- as he's now required to do! Edifis must construct a palace in a month so that Cleopatra will win her bet against Julius Caesar, but Edifis's rival, Artifis, will try to thwart his efforts. The plot is incidental, though. What we want is lots of punning and antics from our Gaulish friends, and we get them! By the way, these stories are suitable for little people and big people alike -- unless you have a problem with cartoon violence where people get bashed around quite a bit (but are never killed).

  • This is one of the most fun episodes of the series. The laughs are mainly at the awful architectural skills of edifis and the exagerrated pomp of Cleopatra.
Asterix is welcomed to ancient Alexandria by the famous Lighthouse; Asterix hints at the future involvement of French in the construction of the Suez canal; Cleopatra gives Getafix some historic scrolls from the famous Library; and so on. Readers will enjoy the witty and educational cultural and historical references.

  • Great graphic novel. Clear graphics.

  • Gave these books to some junior high kids. They not only loved the graphic story, but also enjoyed the sprinkeling of Latin throught. Nearly all continued learning through Latin classes at school. A superior intro to our Mother Tongue as well as a thoroughly interesting comic book series for its own sake.

  • I am using the comics to learn english,
    both Asterix (more sophisticatd language,
    Lucky Luke more everyday's language).
The comics always arrived in perfect conditions and in the due time.

  • I always have loved the comments about Cleopatra's nose. Asterix is great. Thanks for the book, it is in good condition!

  • The original colors were quite beautiful enough, thank you.

Now it's all changed; the great variety of colors is almost gone. For instance, the poisoned cake had been depicted looking very moist and luscious with different hues of browns and yellows as well as a greenish tint to the icing on top. And the shine in Cleopatra's hair actually changed from bluish to violet, too. Now neither are shown anymore! What happened?

PLEASE leave these brilliant French comics alone once you translated the story! Sheesh.

  • Great
