Ranma 1/2, Vol. 14 book. Every now and again I've got to re-read Ranma 1/2. Rumiko Takahashi is a great story teller. This is one of the funniest manga I have ever read.

Personally, the copy I ordered wasn't in the best condition and it had a lot of typos in it...But that's my problem. And even though it was full of typos and bad translations- I STILL loved it and it still made me laugh! To me, Ranma 1/2 is probably the best romantic comedy...ever written and one of Rumiko Takahashi's funniest series ever! If you're looking through reviews on book 31, you know Ranma 1/2, and if you do...Why are you reading a review? You should know already what you're gonna get and you already know(should already know) that you'll love it!
Buy this book, and I DARE you not to smile or laugh or snicker while reading it!

While Ranma remains stuck with his girly-girlie curse, he faces still another amorous martial artist - this time he's a dapperly young Frenchman! However, even with all such savory French delicacies right under his young button nose, Ranma still ends up being sent to bed hungry. And, Picolet's really BIZARRE hereditary gives him a great advantage over all the speed-eating contests, so...Ranma has to find ANOTHER way quickly or he would be doomed to wear the tightly-laced iron corset so ruthlessly forced onto his nubile young girl's body AND eventually become Picolet's bride! And one of Akane's sisters, Nabiki is finally given the new role as a main character in the second story. So a sibling rivalry suddenly crackles in the air and Ranma finds himself with a SWITCHED fiancee...none other than Nabiki herself! Now all the lovestruck rivals had caught the wind of it, so poor Ranma is forced to shield the coy-faced young Nabiki from being viciously attacked. And what's more, Nabiki uses her subtle, catty ways to make some dough right off her new fiance as well as to get back at her easily-ruffled little sister! This volume ties up the "Saffron" arc that started in the previous volume.

Some people have complained about the Saffron arc because it is generally darker than most of the rest of the series, with a major emphasis on action and death. It does have the requisite Ranma 1/2 humor and a healthy dose of romance with Ranma finally admitting how he feels to Akane. It also has one of the most beautiful drawings that I have seen in any manga when Ranma burst in on Akane in her wedding dress. Regardless of your feelings toward Akane that panel was exceedingly well drawn with breath taking detail.

My single caveat about this volume is the way that Rumiko Takahashi actually ended the series. Despite the admittedly minimal growth that takes place throughout the series Rumiko Takahashi beats down all of that and ramrods the story right back into the status quo that has existed for nearly a decade. Despite Ranma finally admitting to Akane how he feels during the Saffron arc, despite Kodachi admitting that she realizes that Ranma doesn't love her in the White Lily arc and despite all of the other minor growth throughout the series in the end they all revert to a state of equilibrium with nothing really being resolved.

Then again, this was a series where practically no matter what happened nothing was ever really resolved, so despite my misgivings with this "non-ending" it does somewhat fit into the Ranma universe.

One interesting note about the Saffron arc which finishes in this volume is that in some ways it acts as a precursor for Rumiko Takahashi's next series, Inuyasha. Which dealt a lot more with dark subjects and violence than the slapstick which primarily exemplified Ranma 1/2.

So, overall I would highly recommend this volume to any Ranma 1/2 fan. If for no other reason than to see how it ends, or doesn't end, depending on how you choose to look at it. I would also recommend it to any Rumiko Takahashi fan for its insight into the progression of her storylines, as it segues into Inuyasha's style.

This volume of Ranma 1/2 was well worth the wait. Although a little less comedy-based than some of the other, wackier novels, Volume 22 still produced a lot of laughs. Inside, three newcomers named Herb, Mint, and Lime (weird names, I know) take on Ranma, Mousse, and Ryoga (respectively). The only problem is that Herb, Mint, and Lime have some strange powers...nothing that even Ranma has seen before! And when Ranma gets splashed with some water that threatens to steal away his manhood forever, he, Ryoga, and Mousse have to follow the three intruders to Treasure Mountain, leading to a battle unmatched by anything we've seen before. Will Ranma win back his manhood? Or will he, for the first time, have to admit defeat?
In this volume, Ranma and Akane finally seem to let their guards down and stop fighting, and some very touching material (though not quite enough) comes out here. If you love Ranma 1/2, definitely get this volume!

What happens when cold water can turn you into a girl or a panada? What happens when your fiancee hates men and you don't really get along with her either? What do you get when you add the martial arts, an enemy who might hate you but love your other form and lots of hormones? A big, funny mess!
If you like Ranma 1/2, there are other manga series by the same artist and DVDs are out also. Some of the books, like Rumic World Trilogy volumes are non-related short stories, great if you don't wish to get hooked into one of the series. I would also suggest the 'Oh My Goddess!' books by Kosuke Fujishima.
