Part of The Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine. Shane's lips felt like velvet against the nape of her neck, and Claire shivered in delight as his breath warmed the skin there.

Part of The Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine. She leaned back against him with a sigh. Her boyfriend's body felt solid and safe, and his arms went around her, wrapping her in comfort.

Rachel Caine has truly stepped up her game here. I knew nothing except that it was the newest Morganville book. However, I loved every page of "Last Breath". She has come up with a plot twist so unique that it has the town of Morganville completely turned around and twisted from inside out. She made some shocking plot twists that I never would have seen coming. It always impresses me when an author is willing to do something controversial and daring with one of her most important characters. Caine does that here. It starts innocently enough with Michael and Eve planning their big wedding.

Rachel Caine’s 11th book in the Morganville Vampire series is everything a fangirl could dream of. Last Breath was filled with drama, romance, action, mystery, and a lot of suspense. After eleven books, you pretty much know what you’re getting into with these book. r so I thought. Caine again kept me on my toes by showing us not only Claire’s point of view, but also I’m honestly scrambling to find something other than I FREAKING LOVED IT to post right now, but I’m coming up somewhat empty

Claire swallowed hard, and said, I think she’s going to kill us. All of us. I think she’s going to take the vampires out of here, and destroy the entire town to be damn sure her enemies die here, too. Eve said numbly, Nuke the site from orbit.

You must be new here. That’s fine; we welcome new blood to our tow. ut you need to know the rules. Don’t stay out after dark. Don’t break our laws. And, whatever you do, don’t get on the bad side. Yes, vampires-we said it and we meant it. They’re everywhere in this tow. nd they’re the people you’d least suspect. But most of them just want to live their lives in peace. Oh, there are a few troublemakers-aren’t there always?-but Morganville is all about harmony and cooperation. You’ll probably need to find yourself a vampire Protector.

Caine, Rachel-Last Breath BOOK NEW.

Last Breath: The Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine.

Rachel Caine is a pen name of Roxanne Longstreet Conrad, an American writer of science fiction, fantasy, mystery, suspense, and horror novels. She also publishes media tie-in novels as Julie Fortune. Caine grew up in West Texas and graduated from Socorro High School in El Paso, Texas, in 1980.

Narrated by Cynthia Holloway.

Claire finds out that vampires aren't the top predators. There's something worse that preys on them. So if Claire and Morganville want to live, they will have to fight on to the last breath.
  • Wow. Just wow. I can't believe who died in this one. Shocking. There were so many great twists and turns. A new mysterious enemy that is really kicking the vampires' butts too. This one had so much heart in it--we got to see how much so many characters care about someone. I loved that we experienced the point of view of Amelie, Shane, Michael, and Eve. It was really cool to see things through their eyes. Non-stop tension and action. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just say I laughed, I gasped, and I cried. It was that good!

  • This is my favorite Morganville book to date, no doubt about it. I can't even begin to explain how refreshing it is for me to read a book in a series that is so far along and still be impressed and shocked by it. Rachel Caine has truly stepped up her game here. She has come up with a plot twist so unique that it has the town of Morganville completely turned around and twisted from inside out. She made some shocking plot twists that I never would have seen coming. It always impresses me when an author is willing to do something controversial and daring with one of her most important characters. Caine does that here. And I am left with a lot of questions. Will there be effects from the author's big decision here? What exactly is the extent of the big surprise? Is it over and done with or will there still be shocks and changes to come? All of that just deals with one character. And "Last Breath" is about so very much more. Characters we thought we knew (um, Amelie) are making harsh decisions that will effect the residents (living and undead) in a dire way.

I fear giving away too much about this book. I knew nothing except that it was the newest Morganville book. That fact alone made the book an automatically pre-order. However, I loved every page of "Last Breath". It starts innocently enough with Michael and Eve planning their big wedding. We get quite a few revelations in that department that had me an emotional roller coaster. As much as I love Claire and Shane, I adore Eve and Michael. The the big things start unfolding with the new threat to the town and I knew that this book was something special.

I want to add a couple things. Firstly, the previous book "Bite Club" was my least favorite Morganville book. It wasn't bad by any means but I was left wondering if maybe the series was heading down a different path. All my fears were put at rest with the new book. "Bite Club" was like the calm before the storm. I am truly thrilled that Rachel Caine has recently announced the contract for several more Morganville books...I believe it will bring the series up to fifteen novels in total. I also want to state that I adore Mernin and there is a lot of him in "Last Breath". In fact everyone we know and love shows up in this book. The viewpoints switch from Claire to a few other characters. I don't know that I am a huge fan of this technique but that was the only way to show everything we needed to see in "Last Breath".

I can't recommend "Last Breath" or this series as a whole any more than I do. This is a must read series. If you are a fan, don't wait to read this one. If you haven't started the series yet, don't wait a second longer. Buy "Glass Houses" right away and dig in.

  • Let me start out by saying that I LOVE the Morganville Vampire series and have talked some friends into reading them and now they are fans.

I bought the book on Kindle the day that it came out (how disappointing to find NUMEROUS errors in the Kindle version).

The book started out slow - I'm not sure that I am a fan on reading a book with various chapters written from different points of view. I do like how the author has made the characters grow as the series progresses. I like how she brings back things characters/events from previous books in the series. There were some parts at the beginning of the book that made me smile/chuckle. The middle of the book was AMAZING. I was shocked, mesmerized, engrossed and hated to put it down. But then, in my opinion, the book took a turn and fell flat. I'm not a fan of what the author did to Claire - I just don't understand how she could bring her back from ghost/dead to being a human - I could understand if, like Michael, she had to come back as a vampire, but to become human after having "died" seems like a HUGE stretch - even for a fiction novel. The storyline about the other species of vampire was interesting, but the ending left me wanting. I can't imagine a Morganville without the Founder. If Myrin can bring Claire back, how can he not fix Amelie?

I was so looking forward to this book, but after reading it I am frustrated. I enjoyed parts of the book, but overall, I am disappointed.

  • So I've really felt this series has been strong and there have been a few books that have been filled with some fluff and filler but this one was written really well. Rachel Caine's writing style is very strong and you can really feel the connection and how strong it is between Claire and her roommates.

Claire is yet again a very strong lead heroine with a strong sense of self. She can take care of herself in a fight and that's a great quality in a main character. We don't always want to read about a girl who needs saved by a knight in shining armor it's nice to see a girl who can save her boyfriend when he needs it as well and that is Claire Danvers! I also enjoyed that this book showed parts that were from Amelie's point of view. It helps to see a little behind the Ice Queen herself.

I think this book was really great because it had a lot more surprises than others and it held my attention really well. I would have to say that I was in complete shock throughout the story and was awestruck more than once. I almost cried at times. Myrnin will always be my favorite character and he does not disappoint yet again. His character is as always charismatic and crazy. This was a very well written book which is hard to say about a novel that is book number 11 in a series. I was surprised to see on Rachel Caine's website the other day that there will be a total of 15 in this series. But after reading the story today I think she can pull it off and has much more to bring to the table. The end is on a cliffhanger which I enjoyed and am excited to see what happens next.

Excellent addition to the series!!! 4 1/2 Stars!
